Need to create word documents or spreadsheets but don't want to spend an arm and a leg to purchase exspensive software? Well, there's good news! You don't have to thanks to a site known as openoffice.org.

OpenOffice.org is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages such as MS Office. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge without usage restrictions or license.

If you're familiar with MS Word layout; then you should find the Open Office Writer very similiar (see snapshot below). Keep in mind also that the files you create with this program are cross compatible with MS Word and vice versa meaning you can also open MS Word documents with Open Office Writer.

There are several other handy applications available for creating spreadsheets, presentations and databases as well. If funds are tight or you just want to save some money (in this day and age, who doesn't?), Openoffice.org is a great solution.
